European mediator for interculture

The educational path is born out of the collaboration between the Student’s General Direction, the support and participation of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and IUL online university.

The theme of migration  has acquired increasing importance, as it emerges from public policies aimed at guaranteeing a correct approach to migrants’ reception and intercultural dialogue. In most of the reception processes, cultural mediation has become the main action, so that these professional figures are present in every structure where citizens come into contact with public administrations. The profession of cultural mediator has become pervasive and of crucial importance in reception centres, reception centres for refugees, police headquarters, job centres and local bodies.

The course aims to form cultural mediators providing them with the necessary competences for the correct implementation of processes of inclusion and social conflicts management with special attention to  multiple discriminations and intersections of potential discriminating factors. The training path covers legal, sociological, linguistic and cultural subjects.

The cultural mediator is a professional carrying out not only the indispensable activity of interpreting and translating, but also performing the crucial bridge function between the necessities of migrants and the services offered by public bodies and private structures. The cultural mediators are now a constant presence in all the structures were there is connection between public administration and foreign citizens. Police headquarters, prefectures, job centres, tribunals, prisons, schools, hospitals and reception facilities are some of the places where counting on a communication specialist who can also perform this delicate function of cultural orientation is crucial. Therefore, guaranteeing tools for their constant professional qualification is fundamental.

The course is addressed to secondary school graduates, without limits of age, and geographical provenience, wishing to specialise in the cultural mediation area.

In particular:

  • Access is open to all those holding a secondary school diploma or equivalent title obtained abroad;
